Connecting with your audience begins by encouraging active dialogue. This means having a simple channel for interaction. Luckily, setting up and using a WordPress comment section couldn’t be easier to do.
Adding comment boards to your pages allows your readers to ask questions and offer insights, greatly reducing the divide between author and audience. It gives people an opportunity to discuss the topics that are relevant to themselves, increasing the potential for engagement in every post. Likewise, it’s a key method for building a community around your content, fostering brand loyalty and customer discovery.
Set up your comment section in 3 simple steps
The easiest way to add a comment section to your WordPress posts is through the drag & drop visual editor, Elementor. If you aren’t already using it, Elementor is quick to install and comes in both free and paid subscription plans.
Once you’re ready with the Elementor editor plugin, all you need to do is use the ‘Post Comments’ widget:
*Note – the ‘Post Comments’ widget will only work if comments have been allowed for your site. You can turn this setting on via WordPress Discussion settings.
Step 1 - Find the Widget
Go to the Elementor > Elements panel and search for “Post Comments” to bring up the widget.
Step 2 - Drag & Drop
Drag the widget onto the section of the page you would like your comment section to be. You will see a preview of the comment box appear on your page, alongside a couple of options: Skin and Source.
The Skin of your comment box is its design and layout, which depends on your active WordPress theme. You can leave this untouched and it will fit your current page design.
The Source determines which comments are displayed, and is covered in the final step: ‘Select the Source’.
Step 3 - Select the Source
The Source option allows you to display comments from Current Post or a Custom selection. Current Post is the default option, but you can select Custom > Search & Select to add any number of other pages to pull comments from and display.
And that’s it! Your comment section is now up and ready to go. From here, all you need to do is respond and react to your reader’s posts to start building better engagement!
